Gersonian?
The first thing, I imagine most are wondering is, “What is Gersonian?” You could google it, but in order to prevent you from going down a long rabbit trail and from leaving my site, I’ll just tell you what you need to know. A Gersonian is someone who follows or studies the life of the 15th century French scholar and mystic, Jean Gerson.
The logical question that follows would inevitably, “Why this guy who I have never heard of?” The simple answer is that I like him, but that won’t satiate anyone’s curiosity. The longer answer is that. when working on a PhD. (that I did not finish), I really identified with this man from the time just before the Reformation. He so desired to turn the tides of spiritual apathy and growing intellectualism that permeated this period. He was an intellectual, but it was not what his identity was in. He longed for more of Christ. He sought to be one with his Lord and Savior. It was like I met a mentor 500 years my senior.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way, I need to introduce myself. I am first and foremost a Christian who believes in the love of Christ, the transformative work of the Gospel, the primacy of Scripture, the power of the Spirit, the fellowship of the Church, and the future hope of the resurrection and new earth.
I have been blessed with an amazing wife, two sons, and a precocious daughter (and a golden doodle who thinks she is princess). I am member of a Southern Baptist Church, and if you won’t hold that against me, then I won’t hold whatever foibles your church has against you.
Currently, I am working on three things. The most important two are abiding and openness. Abiding, walking by the Spirit, faith in the vine, union, whatever might be your preference. It is easy to step into for a moment, but I want my days to be a continuous abiding and that is more difficult.
Openness is so very difficult. I believe that it is one of the most difficult things that afflict men at the moment. Openness requires both awareness of the self and the courage to share what you find. The Thoreau quote that says most men live lives of quiet desperation rings more true today than ever. Add to this the constant stream of escape and stimulation from Netflix, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, sports, 24 hour news cycle, etc.
Writing is the last project. It is my current assignment from the Spirit. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord might do.
